Table lamps are not just pretty things you set on a table. These wonderful pieces can dramatically change your room’s atmosphere with a simple touch of a switch. If you want to bring something new to any place in your house, without spending too much money then a table lamp is what you need. But that’s not all that a lamp is for, they are also very good for directing light to a focused area. This is one quality that readers like most. If you have read in a room, even in a well-lit one, you would notice how it’s not enough. An overhead light, even a powerful one, is not enough to compete with what a table lamp can give you. The light that comes from the lamp is rightly focused on your book, which makes reading a more pleasurable experience. This is also the reason why people buy a banker lamp, because it gives more direct, focused lighting.
Lamps are offered from small to medium-sized. Depending on the design, they are generally easy to clean. The first thing that you do when cleaning a lamp is to unplug it from the power socket. Turning it off is not enough as the electricity may still run which might hurt you. Remember to take the bulb off from the lamp so you can clean it easily. Never use water for cleaning bulbs. Instead, wipe it clean with a dry piece of cloth to clean it. Polishing the base of a wood table lamp is a must, this will help bring out the wood’s natural glow which will make it even more beautiful. DO NOT use harsh polishing solutions as it may ruin the wood. If you are not sure with the cleaning agent that you have, test it on an area of the wood that can’t be easily seen. This will help you see if the solution is okay to use for your wood or not. Wrought-iron table lamps, on the other hand, are very easy to clean. They are actually ideal for busy people as they are almost maintenance- free. Wiping or dusting them off once a week is enough for this kind of material. For a more thorough clean however, you can dip a soft cloth in an all-purpose cleaning solution to gently clean the wrought-iron. Dry the base using another dry cloth. For added protection, you can apply a thin coat of liquid wax on the wrought-iron.
A lamp is never complete without a lamp shade. In fact, a lamp without its shade would just seem incomplete, and that is why caring for the lamp is as important as caring for the lamp shade. Since lamp shades are mostly made of fabric, it is important that you have it dusted off once every week. This is also true for paper lamp shade. For glass lamp shades however, wiping them is the way to go. You would need to use a wet cloth to effectively clean it, then wipe it dry with a clean cloth. Just be careful when cleaning glass lamp shades, as they easily gets scratched.
