Taking Proper Care of Your Luggage

This is the default text

If you are a person who travels a lot, you must be using different types of luggage to carry your belongings. You will require larger types if you are traveling with your family for a vacation and relatively smaller ones for business trips which are one-two days long etc. There are different kinds of luggage which are used for various purposes. People choose the luggage according to the items they want to carry, the comfort and convenience they offer and for style and durability. Some types of bags can be carried on the shoulders while some are wheeled luggage which is easy to use.

When you purchasing your luggage you have to consider various factors so that you will be able to get perfect ones for the money you spend. First, check the size of the bag according to the items you want to carry. For example, if you have a lot of clothes to carry, there are different styles from which you can choose. You can use duffel bags, backpacks, suitcases and many other types. Then consider the material with which these are made. This will help you to use the bags properly and also follow the maintenance procedures for them to last long. While traveling, your luggage will be subject to a lot of abuse which could bring about some damage on the luggage. You have to take care of them properly. Here are some simple ways of taking care of your luggage.

Material used: If you wish to use leather bags, it is always better to buy bags made of high quality leather because low quality leather can easily manifest wear and tear. Leather bags are quite expensive and stylish to look at also. If you expose them to rough weather conditions, they can be damaged more easily. While cleaning such bags make sure that you use solutions meant for cleaning quality leather so that no damage is caused to the surface. If you are buying bags made of ballistic nylon, you can easily prevent your bag from getting dirty. You can make use of water and gentle soap to clean the luggage.

Luggage made of polyester is usually flexible and hard wearing. They are scratch resistant also. Cleaning polyester bags are very easy. All you have to do is use water, gentle soap and soft brush. Cleaning in and out of the bags will be more fruitful.

Cleaning procedures: While using brushes ensure that they are made of soft materials like nylon so that no scratches are left behind on the bags. There are other solid accessories which are used on the bags like the zippers, locks, edges etc. Make sure that you don’t use oil on these parts because they could initiate leaks which can spread to the items placed inside. For good touch up of these parts you can either use lacquer or clear nail polish. After cleaning it is ideal to use some solutions which will make the bag resistant to water, dirt and stains etc. It is also useful to buy a few spare luggage tags as they can often be ripped off when a bag is being handled on the ground or loaded into the plane. I like to put two lables on all of my suitcases so that if one is torn off then there will be a second to help ensure the case finds its way home.

You should be a bit careful about quality when you initially buy. Bags take a real pounding and you don’t want yours to burst open on the conveyor belt or in the plane. So I generally avoid buying really cheap luggage sets. Even carry on luggage often breaks when you are pulling it around. That said you can often find excellent quality brand-name disount luggage sets on sale if you look around. They may be from the previous season or slightly out of fashion but you can get high quality at an affordable price.

Read instructions: Whenever you buy a luggage set you will also receive an instruction manual which contains the cleaning or maintenance procedures. Go through it very carefully and make sure that you follow the procedures and use products according to the guide. In this way, you can never go wrong and you will be able to use suitable products for cleaning the bags. They will look clean and as good as new each time you use them.
