There are lots of ways people have to unwind and relax. We could experience the joys of a male massage therapy by a man with strong hands so that he can dig deep down into the tissue to work out any soreness you may have. We could light up an aromatic candle with the scent of lavender while we take a bubble bath to help us calm down. Some enjoy listening to soothing music while drinking a glass of their favorite wine. Whatever the method that you prefer for unwinding and relaxing there is another option that might not seem as obvious and it can be done anywhere; that technique is simply taking deep breaths.
When a person takes 3 to 5 deep breaths consecutively, one right after another, this can induce a sense of relaxation in the body. Do this a few times throughout the day and you could alleviate stress and remain calm and actually healthy. You may be wondering how a relaxation technique such as breathing can deeply a few times a day make me a healthier person. The answer is simple. When we take deep breaths our body’s physiology changes and helps to regulate our body’s normal functions.
When we inhale such a large amount of oxygen and exhale an equally large amount of carbon dioxide we are actually bringing in more oxygen molecules to feed our blood cells and muscles and getting rid of the toxic molecules of carbon dioxide. This also lowers our body’s PH levels (acid in our body). When our PH levels are lowered it makes it hard for organisms that cause disease and illnesses to survive. Our muscles also tend to relax more when we take deep breaths. This allows our blood to flow more freely through our bodies and it can lower high blood pressure issues.
Merely taking deep breaths 3 to 5 times back to back a few times a day can be therapeutic and lead to a healthier body as well as a more relaxed stress free being. The best part about it is the fact that this simple yet effective exercise can be done anywhere so next time you are stressed at the office or in traffic try taking deep breaths and see how your mood changes.
